Could you please (if you haven’t before) do pics of what each of your vintage pen nibs’ writing style look like, if they are different widths/create unique lines?
Oh absolutely!! I've been looking for an excuse to do this for ages. Their writing styles are as varied and unique as their shapes.
Here they are on Midori MD paper written with Rohrer & Klingner's Iron gall Salix ink. I photoshopped the pen nibs next to each writing sample so it's easy to tell what's what.
Tumblr media
Now you can't tell from the writing sample, but two of these nibs have ball pointed tips! This is a feature you'll find on fountain pen nibs, but seems to have disappeared from modern dip pen nibs. Instead of coming to a sharp point, a ball pointed nib has a little round nubbin on the end that is much smoother to write with.
Tumblr media
Because of this, the Perry & Co Glideaway and the R. Esterbrook & Co Oval Point are extra nice to write with! Though ball pointed nibs do come at the price of flexibility.

Ahhh im a fan of the gang (Maya, Larry, Gumshoe, Miles etc) going to Phoenix’s place like every other weekend and the intent is always to eat some food and hang but Trucy always convinces them to play some game and at first they’re like ‘uhhh love idk abt this’ but 5 minutes in everyone is super into it. For instance, Larry cried bc he got jailed in Monopoly

You guys, I was searching the Internet for anything on what kind of writing instruments Tolkien used, and somebody posted an actual dip pen that he owned and which is on display in a museum, and it was not what I was expecting.
Tumblr media
SWIRLY. BLUE. PLASTIC.
Not wood or plated brass like many antique dip pens that have survived. PLASTIC. And it's SWIRLY.
Truly he was a complex man.
(Also the full answer is "a variety": rough drafts were in pencil, then if he liked them enough he overwrote them in ink with either a dip or fountain pen, and finalized his drafts on a typewriter. The dip nibs were Esterbrook 413 Relief nibs, and at least one fountain pen was an Osmiroid 65. Thank you, FountainPenNetwork!)

my new sketchbook & the first page. i thrifted this book from the 40s, all the pencil on the cover has probably been there since before i was born. i learned bookbinding so i could fill it with canson graduate mixed media paper! the sticker on the cover i got at the farmers market from a local artist- Three Goblin Art! also the flowers were picked by my boyfriend's sister from their mom's garden so they're imbued with love <3 !

Went antiquing with my bff over the weekend and I scored this incredible English-made portable writing desk from 1860. There is a gorgeous mother-of-pearl inlay on the face and the condition is near-immaculate save for a tiny crack inside. The original inkwells and key were included, as well! At 40% off and just a week before my birthday, I knew she had to come home with me.
I will be using this to write letters to my haters.
